Q & A
continued from main page

Q: We want to give our newsletter a 2007 redesign. What kind of design seems to work?

A: Good question. There are many ways to design a newsletter template. One important thing to ask yourself before redesign time is who are you designing for -- customers and subscribers who are reading from home, work or both. Once you answer this question you will be in a better position to design for your specific audience.

Here are some common design formats and layouts.

• All text (this has never gone away and is actually back due to PDAs and smart phones not being able to render HTML)
• Equal text and images
• Mostly images
• Mostly text

Additionally you need to decide on layout

• Column
• Columns equal size
• Two or more unequal columns
• Postcard
• Letter
• Newsletter
• Varied Cell Blocks

Don’t forget to keep in mind image suppression is rampant so be sure you are aware of what your email look like when images are suppressed before your email is on its way.
